About the Vikings 
The Viking age was from about 780 AD to about 1066 AD.  Contemporaries would have used the terms Norsemen or Danes, rather than Vikings.  The Vikings lived in what is now known as Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway and Sweden).  They were skilled ship builders, and their ships were able to cross open seas as well as navigate rivers with only a few feet of water.

Many different grooming tools have been excavated, such as combs, hairbrushes, toothbrushes, bathtubs, soap, and hair beads for both men and women.  The Vikings were known for their high level of hygiene and taking baths often.
 
Unique to the Viking era was equality between men and women.  Women could own land and were often leaders in battles. Vikings explored about every corner of the world and remnants of Viking villages are numerous, including the eastern coast of North America.
 
Today, the Viking culture of exploration, innovation and heritage still influences our modern-day life. Thursday, for example, means Thor’s Day, and many Christmas traditions are rooted in Viking culture.
