The Danish red-and-white Christmas heart- known as a julehjerte- is one of Denmark’s most beloved holiday decorations. Made by weaving two paper “baskets” together (traditionally one red and one white), it forms a heart with little handles at the top. The colors reflect Denmark’s national flag, and the craft is closely tied to family traditions: children and adults often make them at home, in schools, or at community Christmas events. Julehjerter are commonly hung on Christmas trees, in windows, or around the house, and they’re sometimes used as tiny holders for sweets or small treats.
