The Tree of Life is a Norse symbol with far reaching meanings.  When Vikings cleared an area for the purposes of settlement, a single tree would be left in the center which became known as the Tree of Life.  It provided food, warmth and shelter and was an important meeting place for members of the tribe.  The central tenet of the Tree of Life is that all life on Earth is interconnected and that we are connected with our ancestors.  Furthermore, it represents motherhood, rebirth and new beginnings.
